While this recording is well rated, yet not the highest rating, this recording is one of my all time favorite recordings. Why?
First, in my opinion, Mozart's Requiem is one of the most beautiful musical works ever written. My only wish is that Mozart could have completed this work himself before his death. Every time that I listen to this magnificent recording, I wonder how Mozart would have completed this work. That said, even with the parts that Mozart didn't write himself, this is a work of wonder and beauty.
Second, the Wiener Philharmoniker performs beyond their stellar reputation on this recording, led by Herbert Von Karajan, a truly incredible conductor. It takes exceptional talent and leadership to conduct musicians of such exceptional caliber, throughout the orchestra, choir, and all soloists.
Third, Deutche Grammophon is well know for the top quality of their recordings. This recording in particular provides such clarity, depth, and space that the listener almost feels like they are listening in person. Creating a recording of this quality, requires a truly talented level of sound engineering, specifically selected equipment, and decades of experience. Recording at this level is an art form.
In my youth, I was part of a community orchestra that performed Mozart's Requiem a number of times. Performing this amazing work is such a wonderful experience. The acoustics of the churches where we performed, always fascinated me, and started me along my journey to truly understand how to replicate the depth, clarity, and color when recording, or live streaming.
HivedMusic grew out of my passion for music of all genres and fascination / intrigue in recording, and live streaming at this level of quality, to share music of all varieties around the world.
I hope you enjoy this recording as much as I do.
