Artist Profile
Anslom is a Papua New Guinean reggae singer-songwriter.
He was born as Ronald Nakikus on 4th October 1978. Anslom comes from the beautiful volcanic town of Rabaul in East New Britain Province – Papua New Guinea (PNG).
Raised by a single mother, Anslom grew up in Rabaul and often hung out with his uncles who played for famed local band, Barike Band. The opportunity to sing with the band followed naturally and Anslom was hooked. He started singing with Barike Band in 1993 and found himself juggling music and school.
Anslom has a Bachelor of Arts majoring in Political Science from the University of Papua New Guinea and a Post Graduate Diploma in Language and Literature from the University of Goroka, Papua New Guinea.
In time, he sang the lead vocals for Barike Band and featured in many PNG top artist’s albums. He also played at numerous corporate events and night clubs.
His first album “Don’t You Lie” was recorded with Pacific Gold Studio. Anslom’s music has earned him PNG awards. He was the 2007 Solo Artist of the Year and 2001 Yumi FM Rookie of the Year. His music became poplar around the Pacific, earning him interviews with radio stations and print press.
He recorded albums with Mangrove Studio in New Caledonia and toured the Pacific extensively to promote his albums. Through this whirlwind of undertaking different aspects in the music business and enjoying the successes and experiencing the lows – he discovered his niche in reggae music.
Anslom wants to share messages of hope and inspiration on everyday struggles faced by Papua New Guineans and the world.
Anslom’s first international reggae album “Love Me Again” was a collaboration with late Lucky Dube’s band, One People, released in 2019. The album has claimed international recognition through online platforms and radio stations around the world. The album is a classic and reminds one about the need for social cohesion in order to make the world a better place.
On November 1st 2022, Anslom released his new single “I Will Love You” from Break the Barrier Extended Playlist (EP) through Big Records Canada in association with Sony Music The Orchard. The single took off with its world wide radio release and then Anslom was really getting the attention he deserved. It wasn't long after his first single that he dropped "Break the Barrier". With the amount of interviews and press he received, I would say he is internationally known as the PNG prince of reggae.
